Spartanburg International Festival!
This event was in Octber, 2007 - Check back in Sept. 2008 for event information on the 2008 International Festival. Click here for a few highlights of the 2008 Festival.
People from more than 60 countries reside in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Some countries may be represented by a family of four, and others are represented with thousands, like Germany and Switzerland. As more than 100 international businesses make Spartanburg home, it’s easy to see how this southern community became so diverse. More than 20 years ago, the City of Spartanburg and the Human Relations Commission decided that this wonderful diversity needed to be celebrated…that people born right here in Spartanburg and the Upstate needed to “meet” their new neighbors and learn about their culture and customs. The first Spartanburg International Festival was held in 1985 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. The festival continued to grow over the years and expanded to Barnet Park
in 2000.
The 21st annual Spartanburg International Festival will celebrate Spartanburg’s diverse multicultural community. The event not only brings the cultural spirit of Spartanburg to light, but also provides an opportunity to share and be a part of such a vast cultural exchange. Additionally, the festival gives people who have moved to the area a chance to reconnect with their roots.
Organizers promise a world of fun from around the globe, including entertainment, food, music, exhibits, dance, and activities for the entire family. You can even get your “passport” stamped when visiting each country! Admission is free, but you will want to bring money to purchase food and souvenirs from around the world.
